Back on our map

Students from Beaumont College South Lakes took part in an exciting activity in Old Hall Woods, Bouth, Cumbria.

They worked with Back On Our Map and Morecambe Bay Partnership to take part in a unique experience with Dan Fox of Sound Intervention. Dan is a specialist in sonic art, installation, street performance and location sound. He led an interesting and highly enjoyable interactive walk through the woods, using technology to listen to the sounds of nature.

The students used radio headphones connected wirelessly to a range of specialist equipment such as contact microphones and a parabolic microphone. They listened to sounds in the environment that can’t usually be heard, such as trees swaying, ants moving underground and even underwater sounds.

This all contributed to the John Muir Trust Award that these students are working towards.

At the end of the day, Kerry was presented with a cowslip pot which she can use to attract butterflies.

We would like to thank Heather, Jo, Anya and Dan for an amazing day!
