Beaumont College supports special school leavers including those with complex autism and social and emotional challenges. 

 
Some of our students have excellent language skills, while others may communicate in different ways. All have learning difficulties. For individuals in this group of students, they may have developed strategies for communication over their lives that aren’t as helpful or easy to understand as they reach adulthood. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, our ethos and culture is to support our young people to develop strategies focusing on positive behaviours, reducing and ideally removing the need for our young people to deploy unhelpful strategies to communicate their needs, be heard, listened to and understood. 
 
You will work with identified students as part of a small team around the student, enabling and empowering them to prepare for fulfilling busy lives as young adults. Along the way, there will be fun, memories to make and a significant journey of ups and downs. As they graduate our young people demonstrate the progress they have made through their actions. Student Support Workers work directly with day students, and develop the insight, skills and competencies to support students to thrive as young adults. Students are all special school leavers, with ambitious visions for busy fulfilling lives at and beyond college. Students are considered to have special educational needs and disabilities. Our students follow a pathway relevant to their starting points, and student support workers can develop specialist knowledge behaviours and skills in working with individuals who have complex, multiple and profound disabilities, through to those who aspire to gain paid or voluntary employment. 

As a specialist post-16 college setting, we have a wide range of health professionals including nurses, occupational therapists, speech and language specialists, physiotherapists and eating and drinking specialists, along with an ethos to support and promote positive behaviours. Senior  Student Support Workers work with teachers, tutors and health professionals to extend learning into life outside of the college setting. The goal is resilient graduates, who are confident as young adults and believe in themselves; they show this through reduced reliance on others and through self-advocacy.

Our main college is located on a 7 acre site with a wide range of accommodation for students to live and learn. As part of the estates team, post holders will be skilled or semi-skilled in a tool-trade such as plumbing, carpentry or electrical work and be seeking an opportunity to use those skills as part of the management of the existing site, and support the process to move to a new site and continue the works there.

The Beaumont College family work closely together to provide opportunities for special school leavers to prepare for full and busy lives as adults. Empathy, patience and understanding of special educational needs or a willingness and aptitude to learn are key to the postholders appointment.

Each student spends 2-3 years following an intensive multi-disciplinary team study programme that supports them as school leavers into busy, productive and fulfilling lives as adults.
