Facilities & Health and Safety Manager
Mick has been employed at Beaumont College since June 1987, starting as a maintenance worker, in 1994 a career change beckoned, successfully applying and becoming a keyworker in student support. Since then he has worked through the student support management structure to his current role as Facilities Manager/Health & Safety Advisor. He has been in this role since 2007. Mick has gained a number of qualifications over this time including the Registered Manager Award (Adult), Occupational Health and Safety and is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH). He has also attended a number of courses throughout his career including the Institute for Applied Behaviour Analysis (IABA) course on the introduction to an Effective Quality Improvement and Outcome Evaluation System, the LSIS Management to Leadership. Mick is also a registered trainer and holds a level 4 teaching award in the adult learning sector. The main function of Mick’s role is to lead the College Facilities Teams which include Maintenance, Catering and Housekeeping. As a second role Mick oversees all Health & Safety systems at the College on behalf of the College Principal. He ensures that the College remains compliant; meets its duties under health and safety legislation; ensures that staff receive the relevant health & safety training and chairs the Health & Safety Committee. He provides Health & Safety information to all stakeholders including written reports to Governors. Mick also plays a key role in supporting and advising all departments on health & safety matters, which also includes work placements, this ensures that learners are supported safely and that their individual living and learning needs are met to enable achievement of their hopes and aspirations. Mick’s interests are soul music, his family and walking, particularly up the mountains in the Lake District.
