Trevor’s lifelong passion for outdoor education has led him from his early career in electrical engineering, to an extensive and successful career in education. Most recently devoting over 30 years of his career to the Bendrigg Trust, Trevor developed courses that promote independence, encourage inclusivity and build self-confidence. During this time Trevor successfully led the growth of Bendrigg to its current team of 27 employees, running outdoor education courses for over 5,000 people every year. During his time at Bendrigg, Trevor has raised over £4M for capital projects making significant improvements to the facilities, in addition to the £50k he raised each year to cover core costs.
Despite retiring in 2017, Trevor continues to be Membership Secretary of the Association of Heads of Outdoor Education Centres, as well as a trustee of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS). He also remains on the Cumbria Committee of the grant-making trust; The Hadfield Trust.
Over the years, Trevor has also held an extensive list of outdoor qualifications including ML Summer and Winter (Mountain Leader), MIC (Mountaineering Instructor), BCU inland & Sea proficiency Kayak (British Canoe Union), BCU Trainee Instructor, RYA Elementary & Intermediate certificate (Royal Yachting Association), Skiing: Ski Party Leader, Diving: PADI – Open Water Diver, Life Saving: Bronze Medallion & Award of Merit, First Aid: Many & Various, NVQ: Assessor & Internal Verifier – D32, D33, D34 ,APIOL and Mentor & Assessor, LPOL and Review Board member
Trevor’s other interests include regular trips to the Dolomites; via ferrata climbing at the highest standard, Chair of the NW Craven Branch of the RSCDS, Director/Trustee and member of the RSCDS management Board.
