Phillip Smith

Governor

Information and Communication Technology

Phillip has forged an impressive career in technology, including a wealth of experience in multiple programming languages, systems analysis and cyber security.

Phillip started his career working for the Department for Work and Pensions, where his technical knowledge allowed him to progress to the Performance Management Team in just a few short weeks.

Phillip’s move to LBM, as a Management Information Agent/Analyst, saw him go on to develop systems to monitor and support the performance of sales teams working for O2. Phillip continued to extend his talent for software development at Lanway BDS Ltd, where his knowledge of Access, SQL, ASP.NET, Visual Studio, HTML, CSS, C#, JavaScript and Ajax gave him experience of the complete product lifecycle; from initial sales meetings, through concept and proposal, to development of the application followed by deployment and debugging.

Most recently, Phillip currently uses his talents running ‘Mediasmith’, developing software for a wide range of industries, including aeronautical engineering, product design, travel, and the care sector. In addition to this development work, he also supports various networks with a mixture of Windows, Mac and mobile devices, as well as VOIP telephone systems and develop mobile applications.

Since June 2017, Phillip has also been Chair of the North West Cyber Security Cluster. As a founding member, he has helped to develop relationships with Government, police (particularly the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit), local councils, as well as inter-member business relationships.
